Branding for small businesses

Branding is as important if not more important for small businesses as it is for large businesses. Large businesses can usually take a few bad reviews and still carry on trading and doing well, for smaller businesses one or two bad reviews left for them can make a huge difference and has been known to shut some businesses down. Smaller businesses often do not have the marketing budget to be able to market their brand fast and gain a lot of business in a short space of time, so it is vital that any money spent is spent wisely and is invested not only in the short term but also the long term future of the business.

Once you have started to build up a brand it is important that you stay consistent. For example, if you own a restaurant and have a certain standard in the way in which the food is presented then this forms part of your brand and people expect the same standard every time. If all of a sudden you get a new chef in who doesn’t take as much pride in how food is displayed on the plate, although it may still taste nice, people will often feel let down and disappointed, thus having a negative impact on your business.
