Could the colours used on your website affect its success?

When you are designing your own website or employing a web designer to do this for you one of the first decisions that you will need to make is what you want your home page to look like and what colour scheme and theme you want to use, but how do the colours chosen for your website affect visitors’ impressions of your company and your website’s success in terms of visits converted to sales?

The choices you make when designing your website will depend on your target audience for instance if your business is concerned with education of or care for young children the site will probably be themed around primary colours and images of toys and animals. It would be an unwise move to use this colour theme if you were marketing your accountancy firm as it would appear unprofessional.

Research has been carried out that shows that using the colour blue on your website conveys a sense of reliability and trustworthiness which is why some banks and other financial institutions use it in their branding therefore if your business is in this category, blue would be a sensible colour to use.

Using yellow on your website colour theme is an effective way of drawing the visitor’s eye to an area of the site and can be combined with other more muted colours to give a modern look. Try not to use it too much though as this can be unsettling for users of your site.
