How to create a brand

A brand is not a business or a logo etc it is something that a business creates and encompasses their marketing, ethos, products and services. Many manufactures have built up recognisable brands. If you look at McDonalds, everyone knows their logo and the ethos behind the company. They recognise the Ronald McDonald character and the way their restaurants are all uniform forms another part of the branding.

When creating a brand, you need to ensure you can answer these few simply questions. Who is your target audience? This is vitally important as much of your branding will be themed around this. For example, your logo design, ethos and colourways may be very different if your target audience is a 12 year old compared to a 60 year old.

Think about your visual branding. Come up with a logo, strap line and colour ways to be used throughout your marketing and place of work. You may want to have a corporate identity package created which will give you different logos to use etc in different placements.

Think of ways of getting your brand recognised. This may be through your website, social media, on TV adverts or through the radio. All of these different formats of marketing are important to building up brand recognition.
